So much for "fans" as Xbox Series X25 sells out in seconds with a good chunk going to horrible scalpers

Today was supposed to be an opportunity for “fans” to get a chance to pre-order the new, limited edition Xbox Series X25. Yet it’s questionable as to how many genuine fans may have actually got their hands on one.

Reddit is filled with bad experiences, people talking about having a console in their cart and it was gone before they could check out. That stock evaporated in “milliseconds.”

And yet almost instantly they were cropping up on eBay. The highest listing I saw was for a ridiculous THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS.

To its credit, eBay seems to be taking action and shutting these listings down, as three I’ve already seen have been ended due to the “item no longer being available”, not “sold”. It was never available in the first place, and frankly, handing over thousands on a promise of getting a thing in the future is the dumbest idea anyway.

Obviously this is a limited edition, with each console uniquely numbered, and was always going to be in hot demand. But while eBay might be taking listings down, more are popping up across the globe.

If you’re a scalper I sincerely hope both sides of your pillow are always warm. (Image credit: eBay)

Scalpers are going to scalp. They’re not going to cancel their order, and they’re going to try somehow to move it on for a premium price. It’s the Pokémon card fiasco all over again.

My advice is clear: Do not buy a console from a scalper. In fact, if you can’t get one directly from a retailer, don’t buy one unless you actually see it and can pick it up with your bare hands. These people have no morals; don’t hand over your money and trust that you’ll actually even get the thing.

I was never going to try and get one myself, as I don’t have a spare $899 to throw at a console I already have in a different body. But scalpers really make me angry. It’s a constant battle in trading card collecting, especially. There’s reselling and then there’s just existing to rip people off by using your bots to scoop up stock from legitimate buyers.

Anyway, rant over. If you did manage to secure an Xbox Series X25 let us know in the comments. Unless you’re a scalper.
